this word simply means that you understood something.
or maybe, for a rather slow person, this would have meant the other party who is translating a message or giving a speech has given a clear picture of what he/she is trying to say.
then again we can say that some people use the word "understood" to tell others that they understand how they feel or they understood what the others is trying to say.

i'm trying to say that this three different tenses of the same ROOT WORD is amazing.
i understood what he/she said because what he/she said was understandable despite me, being pretty dumb. since i understood what he/she said i try to be understanding.
i gave he/she silence to show the care but at the same time showing he/she that i understand that he/she needs some peace for now.
